Hey there.

It's been a while since I blogged.. Sorry about that.
I hate living at places without internet! I feel disconnected and it makes it nearly impossible to work. Also, it hurts the pocket book! I have to go to coffee shops then to justify using their services I always have to buy a coffee.. brutal. Oh well. The update is, I love shooting barrels! and have been finding a few good ones lately. Thats about it, not too much happening. I'm looking for work in Orange County, California. I think that's a bad idea?? haha. I think everyone is looking for work here. :(
Wish me luck.

an assortment of barrels.

the first four are on the small size, the last not so much.
We've had a pretty decent amount of swell this week and it has been a blast enjoying it all!

Hope the same has gone for you,

Thalia St Surf Comp.

Tried to get into the action a little bit at this years Thalia St Surf Comp. So fun.

Adam Mejia, haven't put that name down on my blog for a while! I used to shoot surf with adz all the time. :)

Porter Hogan warming up for his heats, having a good time of course.

Little George Williams!! Rippin.

Here's a few of porter during his heats. He took 2nd over all in pro division, so congrats buddy! He was rippin all day long. Congrats to Jason Wado for his 1st place win at this years Thalia St Comp!

Feeewwww... Nice air bra.

It's been a loooong few weeks. Moved from Maui back to Orange County and am now located in Hunting Beach. :) After a serious infection in my foot I'm finally able to get back in the water and back to work. Relieved.

Stoked to be back at it.

Oh Laguna and Porter..

I learned to love to shoot here. I got addicted to it actually!
Laguna Beach was an incredible spot to learn to shoot surf, and I'm so stoked that I had such a good friend and surfer to learn with!
Always a huge thanks to you Porter.

last month's 35mm.

Brandon Phillips hooked me up with a couple disposable film cameras, the Etnies Step Up. Sadly discontinued, but once a great idea. I think, should be once again. This roll was pretty much a beach camera used in San Clemente, Dana Point, and even a few from a secret spot in Laguna Beach.
Fun to shoot and shoot with. Even more fun to put into photo albums. I'm backing the Step Up.

Brandon Phillips in the black wetsuit, Porter Hogan in the red and grey, and Aaron Gomez giving aproval of a sick surf sesh at state beach.

Step it up!!

One Thousand Days of Blogging.

It's kinda hard to believe it's been that long... 1,000 days since this blog was started.
This is my 716th post and I don't dare count how many photos, stories, and images have been featured, but it's well over 1,000.

It all began because of Ricky Tucker. His blog got me going on mine exactly 1,000 days ago.
Since I haven't seen much of that blog but its Ricky Tucker and he's the man for many, many reasons.
As for me, I love the progression of things and I plan to keep on going with this.

Above are two images created because I didn't have much to do today and I'm not a 'foot'(hand?)ball fan. Enjoy the superbowl commercials, I'm gunna go shred empty slopes.

stay sideways my friends.

Photo of the Day. #1.

This image is of Porter Hogan from this last summer surfing in Laguna Beach.

My thoughts behind this... As I was laying out pages for SBN #5 I came across the photo of the backside ollie and one of an amazing sunset over Catalina Island. While attempting to keep my already 142 page mag short enough to keep a readers attention and tons more photos to go I began to work with methods I usually stay away from, like editing a photo(I don't edit other than minor color corrections, I hate editing photos). But this one.. why not overlap it and play with the opacity? I think the final image turned out very well. The simplicity of what I did to create an unusual look. The same sunset shot from down low, and one up high with porter and his sick style. I dunno.. turned out to really like it. You can find this image in SBN #5, pages 94-95.

Enjoy,

nathaniel.

Large swell, many shots.

Wednesday evening at about 7pm the swell really started to fill in. That is where my last weekend began. Head high sets started pumping in, filling my dreams that evening of the waves to come.

Thursday morning, I woke up early and ran down to find Oak St breaking further out than I had ever seen it before. I knew it was about to be a great time.

A view of Laguna's main breaks. Shot from somewhere near Rock Pile.

Porter Hogan. Rock Pile.

These photos are all from Thursday. I decided that I was going to surf through this swell and try to get some time in bigger waves. I'm so glad that I did. The short period of time where I did shoot was so fun! I got some shots that I'm amped on.. check them out.

Laguna is gorgeous.

Amazing!!! never get sick of this!

All action shots are of Porter Hogan. He had a bit of fun in those few hours... Epic.

The shore breaks in Laguna can get gnarly! wow. This last photo is pretty intense. The barrel is so thick! Notice the surfer that decided it was a good idea to ditch his board... I wonder if he later thought that was a good idea? I hate it when people do that. Keep that thing close so it doesn't kill others, and so that you can actually learn how to dive with it! jeez..

It was a beautiful weekend. There are still plenty of waves going around. So first thing in the morning, I'm gunna go get some more!

See ya out there.
