some snaps.

late afternoon in Laguna Beach yesterday. Beautiful day! Good waves down south at Trestles, but pretty flat in laguna, this swell missed us.

Kids..

Adz was practicing his back 180's. Actually landed a few.

Willy Hogan giving a lil slap.

Shaun getting the largest waves to go through.

This morning in HB. got out early to see if there were waves there, and there was! Turns out that HB was working the best it has all year. I put my camera in the trunk and caught a few waves. :) It was kinda really good out actually. Brandon and I went up there with no expectations, we were blown away. Thank you GOD!

Ponto ASP comp.

Comp Conditions = poor.
Kids stoke on riding it anyways = awesome.

Jordan Kickin it before his heat.

I saw the best wave of the day from this kid. He had the longest running right of the day, threw to the other side of the jetty. I think this was second turn for that wave.

One of the under 16 shredders. This kid rode pretty hard!

Trevor Barton!

Trevor made it further in this comp than anyother! stoked for you trevor! Keep pushing and it will happen!

Mini-groms prepare to attack.

Adam pre heat waxing. Adz made it to the semi finals on this less than perfect comp day. Waves were not very good, I'm stoked to see adam push through that and fight for position.

Adz getting a nice turn of one of the faces that came along.

It was a warm day, not a lot of waves to work with, and a ton of competitors. Still, it was an epic day out on the beach in Carlsbad. The kids all rode hard! Adam had to do 4 heats in super rough conditions, stoked to see him pushing through them.

The day before Chris Williams heats were going down on even smaller waves. The kids were struggling to find good ones, I can't imagine what the adults were feeling the day before. Still, Chris made it through a few heats and he seemed to be pretty stoked on his out come.

Next comp is in Santa Barbara. Hope to see great waves there!

Board rack.

The best part of waking up in the morning to go check waves is walking out the door, to see a rack of boards waiting to be used. This sits out side my window, grab one, lets go have fun.

Yah, these are all softy's. Their good for teaching with, great for learing! and always fun to have around on a small day. I'd rather be on a short board, but I pretty much will never turn down a wavestorm sesh!

Hot Dawgs and Hand Rails, 2010.

Yesterday was Awesome! I had the privilege of going to Hot dawgs and hand rails, 2010. Ryan Paul and Mike Casanova were there to ride in the event, both killed it, and both got more of my attention than anyone else. Other people that were awesome to see were peeps like the Hakker's, Desiree, Jake Kuzyk, Travis Miranda, Pat Garvin, Eli Wiener, Pat Lynch, Jp Walker, Joe Sexton... the list goes on and on. Snowboard Bro Fest 2010!!

The setup was so good this year. Nothing so crazy that it was scary, but still set up in ways that it could be big if you wanted it to be. Good job to the Bear park crew! You guys always kill it.

and thank you to bear for continuing this comp, and making it worth it for the riders to come out and play. Bear Kills IT!

Mike Casanova.

Rp testing the flex on his board.

Nova kept the comp progressive with big spins out of trick likes this.

This was ryans first hit. Back tail 270 out. Stomped like a boss.

Here's a few hundred for the eyes. It might be worth it to check them out..

A sick sesh at Big Bear. Awesome riding all around. Two shoutouts for the boys, Mike Casanova took home best trick, 5,000$ purse. Jake Kusyk took home 2nd place, with a few G's to go around. A very nice way for these two to start out there season.

Still going around..

I liked this pic a lot. Rp is one of the faves. I sure wasn't expecting to see it floating around as much as it has though! amped on it. If you are in the area and can make it to the premiere I would suggest doing so! Last year was a lil rainy, hopefully this year will be perfect. Go support MN snowboarders and all the kids that work so hard on projects like this! Always satisfying.

Thanks Mike Thienes from Youth Shelter! And thanks to all the guys in the vid including Ezra Jacobson, Cody Beirsdorf, Viktor Simco, and Brandon Larson! And all the ones I just missed...
And a huge thanks to the videographers. Such sick work doods. Much Love to MN!!

Laguna Beach.

Last night hanging out and exploring Laguna with friends. Brandon, Alex, and Aaron.
Epic view from top of the World. There's not many places as beautiful as Laguna Beach.

A landscape view. The moon was shigning bright and we could hear the waves pounding from here. Epic.

Ryan Paul was in Laguna!

Its always good to see friends! On the same day that I find a photo of this kid on ESPN he shows up a block from my place in Laguna! We had an awesome day surfing until the sun set. Ryan got some waves, a bunch of them actually! It was pretty fun ripping it up with RP.

Here's a few pics from the beach day.

A few of the setting pics were fun to shoot. I tried to get a few of him on waves but it was kinda difficult due to wave size and low lighting. Still though, pretty amped on the day!

Featured on ESPN.

Bald E-Gal Productions ~ "Poachers 10"

Not many snowboarders "save up to go ride in central Minnesota," but these Bald E-Gal boys keep it pretty homey with a focus on urban riding throughout the icy Midwest. The cold connoisseurs have made 10 surprisingly "big boy-caliber" films to date, including "The Kaw," and count Minn. legend Dan Brisse among their riders. "A lot of crews come to Minnesota to film snowboarding and our riders [often] shred with them and hopefully get some footage out of the deal, too," says producer Justin Turkowski. "Most snowboarders live in non-ideal places for shredding, so we try to show viewers a bunch of hungry kids shredding everything in front of them," adds co-producer Mike Thienes. "I have a retail background of 18 years [skate and snow], so I try to make a video the customers of local shops can relate to, and that is something that a lot of big production companies overlook." (Sam Fenton by A. dodds, ryan paul by N. Harrington)

You can see the whole story here. ESPN.

Always stoked to get a good shout out by the boys back home. I enjoyed shooting along side Sam Fenton this past season in MN. He's a cool cat, and very talented at shooting.

Devo's.

Mark 8: 34-38

34
When He had called the people to Himself, with His disciples also, He said to them, “Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. 35 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it. 36 For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? 37 Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? 38 For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him the Son of Man also will be ashamed when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.”

We talked about this in our bible study this evening here in Laguna.. Its heavy. God doesn't want part of us, or a little bit of willingness. When it says "pick up your cross", it doesn't mean that it will be light or a pleasant death. What it does mean though, is that when you face your responsibilities get ready for your life to rock, because you gain the whole world by loosing yourself.. Its a lot for me to think about.

Another thought about this.. Wanna be Punk? Want to be counter cultural? Want to do the things that no one else is doing? Be Christian, Love God.

Denver..

I made this a long time ago.. This one time I drove up to the Rocky's just as the sun was setting and the image was kinda burned into my mind. It was late and I was by myself after a 15hour drive. I was tired and this was the most perfect sight to see ever. Passing denver to the south, and following the road up into the heart of the mountains. I wouldn't mind seeing this again.

I got the Boards set up today.. Kinda a test to see how I can shoot with my timer. More to come?!

I bet you wish you had this many boards to play with!

my quote.

Its the calmness. Knowing that no matter what you put yourself into, God's right there with you. Its handled, its understood. -Nathaniel Harrington

God's been working on my patience, and allowing me to be calm. He's been teaching me to wait upon Him. I don't know what is in store for my life, I have never known. I have been to many places and done many things. A lot of those things make no sense to me, and I have no understanding of how they came about. What I do realize now is that God's hand has been guiding me so closely... Even when I run away from Him it still has always seemed that He uses it to teach me and to direct me to the exact spot He wants me.

If you have no clue what I'm talking about or even if you think I'm nuts for saying it. Ask me about it, I can afford to be straight up about all of it. I'm not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ.

To cold to return too.

A city that I miss from time to time. Minneapolis, MN. Shot on a very cold night. My tripod snapped in half from freezing.

The 35w bride. The colors on a cold night almost bring warmth.

A view of the dams, lit by the bridge and lights of the most beautiful city in MN.

My uncle's alley. I took a break from sheet rocking the garage and snapped a permanent memory of the simplicity of MN. Makes me so thankful for the palm trees and warm sand.

I remember the week that I shot these photos so well. I was with my good friend Jesse Ostendorf. It was so cold out that night. Something like -30 when we were shooting at the river, and just as cold in the day when I was shooting in the alley. Seeing these photos this evening made me remember MN so well. I am so thankful for the place I am right now. There is no way that I can ever take advantage of Southern California. These images remind me that I need to keep my head down and work hard at the things I am called to do. Work is a blessing from our Father the Creator. What would any of us do with out labor for our hands? I thank the Lord God for all the things He's given me and I constantly need to be reminded to pursue His will for my life and for my photography above all other things. Not a lot of people are going to think that way, but I do, and I'm not even a little bit bummed or ashamed of it.
